Thread starter jgreen Start date Jan 2, It seems too easy to knock down. I filled it with water, but I want to know if any thinks that sand is worth the time to go and get.
Will it make it more stable? Is it heavier? Any other suggestions for stabilizing it are greatly appriciated. SteelShadow Guest. Yea sand makes a difrence in my oppion it works better. The water has a tendency to slosh even if it does alittle it can throw the balance off. Sand on the other dosnt move around it works best as a stabalizer..
Just my oppion tho. I would personally use sand. GouRonin Guest. I think the real problem with many people and heavy bags is that they don't know how to use them properly. They just wail away as hard on them as they can.
Of course it's going to fall over. If you're using it right then you should be able to control it and NOT have it fall over. Martial arts people in general don't use heavy bags properly. I suggest you go down to your local boxing gym and ask for some help. There is more to it than just hitting it. Rainman Guest. Click to expand I've been hitting heavy bags for more than 10 years. I do have an idea of how they work. I am trying to use it as an accuracy tool. For punches, it works fine, except for the incessant sloshing noise which, I guess is reason enough to try sand.
The problem is kicks. I've seen and used water stand up bags before, and it took alot to get them over. One side kick, and BOB falls down and goes boom.
I do not know how the others were anchored. Originally posted by jgreen I've been hitting heavy bags for more than 10 years. The XL version has more target areas to hit, and with the heavier weight it is more sturdy and can take bigger hits. The overall feel is like ballistics gel and rubber. Muscles on BOB XL are not just indentations, but full molds that look very realistic of a human being.
When you punch BOB in the stomach you can feel the strike being absorbed by the surrounding material, like striking a real torso. There are no screws or hard pieces inside to hurt your hand.
This will allow you to move the BOB punching bag around easily, saving you time and effort. This is the fastest way to set up your punching bag. Using a bucket or a gardening hose should fill the base in a matter of minutes.
Water has the advantage of availability. There is no need for a trip to the local supermarket in order to get your much-needed base filler. Defects might be caused by careless maneuvering during transport or it could be a manufacturing defect.
Another method implies using a flashlight. If you see any ray of light exiting the tank, you should ask for a refund. Even if your new training equipment seems to be in top condition, you should still pay attention while filling up the base. Furthermore, keep an eye on any possible leakage after setting up the bag. If you are practicing powerful strikes, the bag will move around the room.
Some athletes recommend fixing the punching bag to one of the lower height settings if you are using water as a base filler. If it is set up at its maximum height around 6 feet 6 inches it will easily tilt over because of its reduced weight.
According to a piece of information that could easily be found online, if the base is filled with water, the BOB punching bag should weigh around or lbs. Furthermore, water is a good option if you need to store away your punching bag. Emptying the base should cause you no problem despite not having a drain pipe placed at its bottom. If you are living in a colder area, make sure to empty the tank before putting the BOB punching bag away. As we all know, water expands when freezing and it will cause the base to crack.
Not only this will ruin your training equipment, but the leaking water might damage some of the other goods placed in storage. Keep in mind that it takes around 20 gallons of water to fill the tank.
You just need to replace it with another base filling material. We recommend replacing the water with sand. Empty the water from the reservoir and wait a couple of hours for it to completely dry. Pour as much sand as you need. If you want the bag to have the same weight, fill up around three-quarters of the base. As an additional safety measure, place some duct tape over the fissure, to keep the sand from escaping the base.
Nevertheless, sand is a better choice if you are looking for a heavier, more stable Body Opponent Bag.
