After that, just come back and read on. Fluctuating FPS is a big problem in shooters. If the fluctuations are too strong, you will notice them in the form of stuttering, which will affect your gameplay and especially your aiming.
If you are more interested in this topic, I recommend our article:. Strong high-end systems tend to have fewer problems with FPS fluctuations, of course.
Unfortunately, some games are not programmed optimally, so that you will have fluctuating FPS even with the best high-end system. This includes PUBG, for example. The program is free and can be downloaded here. This program can monitor your system and record values like frame rate and frame time during the game. You have to activate the monitoring under settings. Here you can see permanent spikes in the frame time at the bottom, which are related to the drops in the frame rate at the top.
If these spikes occur when you are aiming, you can imagine that this is not helpful. In such a case, I would also recommend you an FPS cap. The best thing to do is re-record the values using Afterburner with FPS Cap and compare the two graphs. If the graphs look significantly better with FPS Cap, you can assume that the gameplay experience will be significantly more consistent.
If you move your mouse cursor over the framerate drops in the Afterburner graphs, you will also see the exact FPS value at that time. Why would you want to cap your FPS? I read a few post of people stating they set their caps to 60hz or hz.
Why not let your PC try to get you as much as it can? Is there any benefits to this that I'm missing? Showing 1 - 15 of 26 comments. A question about locked and unlocked frame rates. Because it unecessarily overuses power since the GPU will work harder for the same visual performance. Of course the case can get more complicated if there is screen tearing, dips in frame rate or input lag.

I normally do only to reduce power and heat usage of my gaming computer very compact MSI Trident 3 when is really not necessary all that extra power For example, i now play "the division" and, my pc can do more than 60fps but, i see both cpu and gpu used at very high levels so, i prefer to limit to 50fps. I really dont see the difference in response time and everything runs much smoother and cool Just personal preference, if you have a powerhouse or dont care about burning unneccessary cpu and gpu cycles or is a very recent game i dont really see reasons to limit FPS.
Vsync off and limit fps to the refresh rate of the monitor gives you the smoothest gaming experience. Ogami View Profile View Posts. The whole point of a G-Sync Monitor is that it compensates between FPS fluctuations so you as player do not notice it.
So i would not lock the FPS. Last edited by Ogami ; 3 Jun, am. Last edited by Winged One ; 3 Jun, am. Originally posted by theseraph1 :. Originally posted by eram :. In short, screen tearing happens when graphics card and monitor are not in sync. Due to screen tearing, your game experience might be ruined.
On the one hand, these embedded FPS limiters have issues like input lag, stability errors, and others. Additionally, external framerate limiters help you reduce the load on your hardware so that your computer will not overheat easily and can last long. Moreover, FPS limiters consume less power.
Here Are Detailed Steps. What are the best FPS limiters?
