Additionally, again probably not important here, is the use of 2 step verification ia the LastPass Authenticator app. For security, do I need to have port enabled in my router? I enabled originally but have now disabled and all seems OK.
It seems to me that the two ports are like an open door and a locked door ; it seems sensible just to use and block unless I am missing something important Obviously some other apps, e. This seems to me to gain little as a port scanner will find the new ports, even though it may take a bit more work to verify that the new numbers simply correlate to the old numbers. Thanks Telos. I will take your advice and change the port number. Cannot do any harm and can do good. So, I'm not sure what you mean by this. Using the SSL port does NOTHING to protect the server, or to secure the server except that the login and password is sent from the client to the server encrypted rather than in the clear, so someone sniffing traffic between the client and server can't discover the login and password. The purposes of SSL are to ensure that communications between the server and client are encrypted, and to assure the client that they are talking to the server they think they're talking to and not some other server masquerading as the intended server.
I already have blog post on most of these, so I will link to them, but there are some new ones too. You are probably wondering why I am asking you to disable those accounts. Here is why, and it is specially true if you decide not to enable 2-step authentication: If somebody tries to hack your synology, they need to know two things: your username and your password.
If you dont disable your username, they already have the username of at least two of your users admin, and guest and that way you are making it waaaaaaay to easy for them.
You want all your data traffic to be secure right? Here is how you do it:. Once you change that, and your web server re-starts, you will be presented with this message on all browsers see image below. Did I brake your NAS? Ok, ok, got you, to avoid that, just add your ip as a trusted site and you are good to go.
Here is a link on how to do it for all browsers. This setting specifies which protocols are used when connecting through SSL. I think this is because the satellites can not synchronize time or take any contact to the node. The satellites do not operate via TCP and not via as it seams. I the synology Forum we already had the discussion but with no final result.
And since the satellites communicate a random port ever time they contact, all ports shall be open to those special IPs. My trouble now: This seams not to work very stable and fine. I am wondering what to do when the satelites change IP or a new satellite emerges? What port on your NAS do you want to open? This is more important. Your node needs to accept incoming traffic from customers.
As I write, the node works fine. Just until an update is performed and there needs to be certain communication with the satellites. There the error occures. I attached a screenshot of the synology DSM firewall rules.
